ABOUT THE ART IN THE STREETS EXHIBITION
The Museum of Contemporary Art presents Art in the Streets, the first major U.S. museum exhibition of the history of graffiti and street art, April 17 through August 8, 2011, at The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA. The exhibition traces the development of graffiti and street art from the 1970s to the global movement it has become today, concentrating on key cities where a unique visual language or attitude has evolved.

Art in the Streets showcases installations by 50 of the most dynamic artists from the graffiti and street art community, including Fab 5 Freddy (New York), Lee Quiñones (New York), Futura (New York), Margaret Kilgallen (San Francisco), Swoon (New York), Shepard Fairey (Los Angeles), Os Gemeos (São Paulo), and JR (Paris). MOCA’s exhibition emphasized Los Angeles’ role in the evolution of graffiti and street art, with special sections dedicated to cholo graffiti and Dogtown skateboard culture. The exhibition featured projects by influential Los Angeles-based artists such as Craig R. Stecyk III, Chaz Bojórquez, Mister Cartoon, RETNA, SABER, REVOK, and RISK.'

'Last night, New Image Art gallery unveiled the latest work by Australian artist Anthony Lister (interviewed). As we showed you earlier in the week with a video teaser (covered), he had been hard at work inside his studio preparing to unleash a new body of work. Now after visiting this exhibition, it’s safe to say that Lister has once again delivered a repertoire of artwork which clearly displays his unique and unmistakable style.

The night featured Lister’s thematic take on the ballerina as both an image of beauty and disfiguration. A variety paintings covered the gallery floor including works which featured different studies leading up to the final outcome. Also, two sculptures created by the artist were on display. On top of this artwork, hand-finished prints were made available, all of which came directly from the printing powerhouse Modern Multiples.'

Behold the explosive work of German photographer Martin Klimas who has created this series entitled, 'Porcelain Figurines'. These images were captured just as each of the figures hit the ground after being dropped from a height of 3 meters. Klimas was able to take the photos by setting his camera to respond to the sound of the porcelain hitting the ground - triggering the shutter release.

Martin Klimas - 'The hardest part of my work is to smash so many figurines until I find one that truly is showing me something new. I am in that sense a sculptor, but I have only a 5000th of a second to build my sculpture'

'Worked with Mondo and Disney for this promo poster for the upcoming IMAX 3D release 'JOHN CARTER'.
'A lot of people have been waiting a very long time for this film to get to the big screen-after all, it's been 100 years since Edgar Rice Burroughs began writing about John Carter's Mars adventures, and those stories laid the groundwork for many scifi and fantasy properties of the modern age (Star Wars, Avatar to name two biggies). Based on the designs I've seen so far, it looks to be quite an impressive and unique vision of Burrough's world.'

'Completely different approach on this one- meant to mimic those large-scale, fully blown out scifi art promo posters you'd get with your happy meal circa '79 (just missing the folds of course!).

This particular Mars landscape is based heavily off the more "grounded" concept art/designs of the film, as opposed to more fantastical interpretations by Frazetta and other fine artists who have largely defined the look of the planet 'Barsoom' over the last century.'

Joe: Retaliation movie. The person playing Blind Master just so happens to be Mr Robert Diggs aka, the RZA! So, inadvertently we get a cool Wu-Tang figure, (lets face it the Ghostface doll wasn't all that).

Shepard Fairey is appearing as himself in an episode of The Simpsons on March 4th. He will feature in Episode 15 of the 23rd season, Exit Though The Kwik-E-Mart, a play on the name of Banksy's documentary of course. Ron English, Kenny Scharf, and Robbie Conal also make a guest appearances.

PLOT: 'In order to get back at his dad, Bart goes undercover as a graffiti street artist and plasters Homer’s unflattering image all over Springfield. But one night, Bart and Milhouse get caught in the act by established street artists Shepard Fairey, Ron English, Kenny Scharf and Robbie Conal (guest voicing as themselves), and to Bart’s surprise, they invite him to exhibit his satirical artwork in his very own gallery show. The second part of season 2 of The Walking Dead will premier tonight (Sunday at 9:00 pm EST on AMC). After the show, Danny Miller will be releasing his ”Zombies of The Walking Dead” print series, as previously posted HERE. The drop is set for 10:30 pm (EST) (Monday 3.30am GMT), right after the show.

'The Zombies of ‘The Walking Dead’” is a collaboration between special effects master Greg Nicotero and artist Danny Miller. The collaboration is a three poster set featuring the RV Walker, the Well Walker and the Bearded Walker from Season 2 of the AMC television series.'

Each poster measures 14 x 30 inches and is a seven color screen print. There are 400 prints of each, and each poster is hand signed by both Greg Nicotero and Danny Miller. Danny Miller has hand numbered each print.

There is also a Silver Screen variant set of each poster limited to only 75 prints of each. Like the regular edition, each of those prints is also hand signed and numbered by both Greg Nicotero and Danny Miller.
