Krampus, your new favourite festive supervillian!

Krampus is a mythical creature recognized in alpine countries^[1]. According to legend, Krampus accompanies St. Nicholas during the Christmas season, warning and punishing bad children, in contrast to St. Nicholas, who gives gifts to good children.

In the Alpine regions, Krampus is represented by a demon-like creature. Traditionally, young men dress up as the Krampus in Austria during the first two weeks of December, particularly on the evening of 5 December, and roam the streets frightening children with rusty chains and bells

Mr Wolfs is a successful independent bar in Bristol (where Backyard Record Emporium once stood). They serve noodles, beer and promote good music. With one simple yet awsome idea, they turned a dream into reality.

'Originals and Limited Editions by Rupert Morley
Graduating from Falmouth College of Arts in 2005 with a degree in Illustration, Rupert Morley has since lived and worked in Bristol, part time as an Illustrator and part time as a print technician.

Rupert’s work explores aspects of urban and rural life. Often starting with random compositions from ink splatters, he then builds the image around what is on the page, getting a sense of the images theme from the way in which it grows. This enables him to work quickly and therefore keep the images energy intact.'

The resulting album was recorded in twelve days, live, with the four together in one room. Dub with no overdubs. The collaboration is political, trashy, dub, punk, funk ... a cohesive sound, and experience in uneasy listening.

MF DOOM - 28x28 INCH HOE CAKES POSTER EXCLUSIVE Extra large poster of the painting by Jason Jagel for the 2005 MF DOOM 12-inch single “Hoe Cakes” on the Rhymesayers label.

'An exclusive here at the Stones Throw online ship -- Jason Jagel's 2004 cover for Doom's “Hoe Cakes”, printed at 28x28 inches (71x71 cm). This is our largest poster to date.

At the request of Doom himself, San Francisco-based painter Jason Jagel and Stones Throw art director Jeff Jank created the artwork for MF DOOM's MM FOOD album in late 2004 on the Rhymesayers label. Lesser-known is the “Hoe Cakes” single, issued only on vinyl, around the same time as the album. Here we see Doom running a hoe cakes stand (you didn't know about his day job?) with his short order cook Count Bass D.

Jason Jagel & Jeff Jank are also designing the definitive reissue of Doom's Operation Doomsday, set for 2011 release through Traffic Ent. '

Oh Rowdy

New Tings at Art-el

We are delighted to welcome West Country legend, Rowdy back to these shores and to Art-el where there is new work available to purchase. As most of you probably know by now, back in the summer Rowdy's home and studio were burnt to the ground and he was left with nothing but the clothes on his back and his pushbike, EVERYTHING else was lost to the flames.

After some time out and a period of reflection it's fantastic to be able to bring you some new and original work.

Here is what he had to say to the guys at Steal From Work recently, about this new work:

"Once I got back on it after the fire, I began to produce work whilst I was wandering around Europe, often working out of the back of the van, sometimes up a mountain, on a cliff edge or in a quarry. As a result my new pieces have taken on a transient quality, for example, what may have started on a rooftop in Barcelona could only be completed at a gate crashed artist residency near Turin".
